I WOULD like to assure Jan Reed (Pothole problem, 24 June) that a number of streets in this area are on our list to be resurfaced.
Unfortunately, Torfaen has a deteriorating highway network that has not been helped by the extremely cold and wet winters of the last few years.
This year our highways engineers have identified around £4m worth of resurfacing work that is needed across Torfaen’s road network. Our budget allocation for maintenance schemes for 2014/15 is just £900,000 which only enables us to carry out around a quarter of the schemes identified.
Difficult choices have to be made, with public safety always our priority. The highway network is regularly inspected to ensure public safety and any defects that meet the councils repair criteria are auctioned to be repaired as soon as possible.
If residents have any concerns about particular pot holes in their area, then please report them to Call Torfaen on 01495 762200.
Cllr John Cunningham Torfaen County Borough Council
