THE ARTICLE about the homeless by Jocelyn Davies AM (Argus, July 8) raises many concerns, one of the most important “obviously” being accommodation.

When I was unemployed for a time in the 1990s, my rent was paid directly to my landlord by the DHSS; at the very least it staved off eviction and made sure I had a roof over my head, even if funds were short of other essentials.

But has the system changed?

Jocelyn Davies mentions support and dealing with landlords, but most of them are fairly relaxed about the whole business as long as the rent is paid on time and the tenant respects the property.

In any event she needs to put her skates on; with elections looming and no proper addresses, the homeless won’t be able to vote for the correct political party, will they?
