THERE are two things I have learned from watching the Football World Cup: England were out of their league; They have the most uninspiring National Anthem on the planet. While other nations sing with verve and passion about their countries, the English trip out the dirge about God blessing a queen. After the unforgettable, disastrous sporting season, they should be singing God Save Our Country. Why they don’t adopt Land of Hope and Glory baffles me, but as long as they remain in that medieval bubble of kings, queens, knights etc, what more can you expect.
