I WAS much affected by the letter from M Davis in Tuesday’ s issue. It seems that he or she shares my growing anxiety about the ever-increasing threats to life on our planet.

Carbon emissions, rampant global warming and glacial meltdown, atmospheric pollution and the imminent catastrophe of continental flooding. All these point an unerring finger at what M Davis describes as our inevitable doom.

What luck, then, that I and my mate Stan decided to go along last weekend to build an ark, preferably one more successful than Russell Crowe’s and David Threlfall’s recent attempt. We already have enough balsa wood and glue to make a good start and our menagerie is complete in terms of snails, hedgehogs and elephants (Stan has contacts in the circus).

Hopefully, we shall be able to call upon the generosity of all like-minded benefactors out there to make up the shortfall. A raven and a dove would be especially welcome, but, hey, we’re not particular.
