TERRY Banfield is once again showing his acute myopia in Monday’s Argus when referring to any political point other than that which he supports. He uses extreme terminology to describe the point which Nigel Farage made regarding HIV treatment given free to people who are not, and never have been, UK residents.
The National Heath Service, Mr Banfield (please note National, not International), is abused with impunity by all and sundry rather than pay the appropriate cost in their own country’s health system. It was most interesting to note that two days after the so called debate, a British citizen in Australia was charged $4,000 Australian dollars for medical treatment as his international health documents had expired three days prior to being taken ill.
Perhaps Terry Banfield will write to the Australian Government using the same language to criticise their approach to such visitors. Finally, Terry, please get your facts right - countries in the EU do not treat five times more UK citizens than we theirs. Try falling ill in Portugal or Spain.
Even with the necessary documents, you may well still be charged as many visitors to those countries have discovered to their cost.
