AFTER my phone call on November 3, 2014 to Newport City Council, a dangerously vandalised bus shelter window was removed from Caerleon Road. Four months later, I reported that the window had not been replaced - no action by Newport Labour City Council. On April 25, I was told that the window was the responsibility of private company, J C Decaux, based in Leeway, Newport.
The very helpful company told me that they were only responsible for the bus shelters with toughened glass windows and that the bus shelters with perspex windows (including the Caerleon Road shelter) are the responsibility of Newport City Labour Council. What’s known as half a job!
The Welsh Assembly has decided to reduce the number of Welsh Councils. Obviously, Newport City Council’s services and responsibilities have already been reduced, namely wheelie bin collections, street cleaning etc and expert Trust Groups assigned to manage Newport’s market, sports and leisure facilities. Why have we not seen a reduction or freezing of our council tax?
