Why is this Council intent on destroying the city’s libraries?
In the last few years the service has been, what seems, the front line for cuts.
This service is essential for communities, students, the elderly and people with mobility problems.
Having seen the Handpost library close and related consideration of the central library closing, the council is now concentrating on Maindee and Carnegie libraries.
Both of these facilities are right in the heart of the areas.
Maindee in particular is very busy and would be a sad, sad loss.
Part of the reason given for closure is the nearness to the city centre library.
This same excuse was used for the Handpost closure.
What about the disabled? In the old days, libraries played a great part in educating the working class and towards our Labour Party being established.
Towns fought bravely to have libraries.
This council is Labour controlled, so can someone there please justify the council’s patent progress towards a library-less city?
