The British Labour Party are on the verge of splitting up, with Scottish Labour wanting to go its own way and Leighton Andrews putting out the controversial tweet that Welsh Labour isn’t interested in the “English Labour” leadership contest.
One of the most senior cabinet members in the Welsh Government has provocatively suggested that who wins the Labour leadership election is of little significance in Wales.
Public services minister Leighton Andrews tweeted a message which said: “Too much #listenkeir appearing in my timeline.
“I really don’t care who English Labour choose.”
#listenkeir is a Twitter hashtag established by some Labour Party members who want former director of public prosecutions Sir Keir Starmer to stand for the Labour leadership, currently vacant in the wake of Ed Miliband’s resignation after the general election defeat.
If this happens then Labour will truly be all things to all men.
In England, they can follow a centre right agenda while Wales and Scotland follow a left-of-centre agenda.
Then Labour in Wales and Scotland shouldn’t be centrally funded from England, but self funded locally, just as Plaid Cymru.
