IN THE wake of controversy about the Velothon pushbike pageant, I feel I should voice concern about a rumoured, possibly similar, event proposed for the near future. The Welsh Marblethon, consisting of a congregation of professional marble players, may well result in the total closure of the M4, A48 and both Severn bridges for the duration of at least a week, marbles being something of a slow game. Economic harm to businesses and commuter links affected by these closures has been assessed by somebody in an office to be outweighed by undeniable benefits to Britain’s marble manufacturers and apparently the Welsh economy in general. Those wishing to object to the event are offered the generous alternatives of either signing a petition or kicking their marbles all over the road.
