LOOKING at a national paper today, i read an item concerning a house being overcrowded by EU immigrants. Now i know this is a wider issue than just newcomers, but 20 people in a tiny house is a little too much. Having read this, I posted on Facebook and was surprised to learn of quite a few similar cases in Newport. One was in Pill and another off Cromwell Road where it was suggested there were twenty occupants and seven caravans along the road outside. Surely this is not right? I would like to know whether Newport Council are aware of these cases and what action they are taking about the landlords? Again, in the Pill area, there have been continuous associated complaints about piles of rubbish being dumped near these houses. Councillor Kevin Whitehead did a good job in helping to solve this one. but overall, have the council a strategy for dealing with both these problems?
