IT WAS kind of the Argus to feature me in Life Through A Lens last Friday, but I must comment on what your reporter said about Mary and my wedding at St Julian’s Methodist Church.
It was not 'the leaders of the church' who arranged the reception in the church hall; it was the ladies of the church. And the £5 charge was not for the hire of the hall, but for providing refreshments for the wedding guests.
To achieve that on £5, even in 1959, was a miracle to rival the feeding of the five thousand. The ladies were obviously as generous as they were skilful.
The reason Smith’s and Waterstone’s gave for not stocking my book Fred J. Hando – A Proud Son of Gwent was that they had too many local books.
