I CAN understand Velothon participant Mr Rawlins’s enthusiasm for the recent cycling event, whose route passed through Caerphilly county borough (Letters, 19th June 19) and I share his wish to promote healthy lifestyles for our local population, but I don’t agree with Mr Rawlins’s criticism of Wayne David MP for saying that the Velothon event should not pass through Caerphilly in future years.
The road closures caused by the Velothon created hours of disruption for many residents and traders in Islwyn and Caerphilly. I’m all for promoting health and wellbeing – but not if it prevents people in our local communities from going about their daily business.
Cllr Gez Kirby,
Pontllanfraith
