MAY I thank all the good people who signed our petition which called on Labour controlled Torfaen Borough council to reinstate the respite care to adults and children with learning difficulties which was cut from six to four/three weeks.
Thanks also to Cllr Jeff Rees and Plaid Cymru for supporting our petition to the council. We obtained 802 signatures in about four hours. Not surprisingly many people were appalled and disgusted that front-line services for some of the most vulnerable people in the borough were being cut.
Some people suggested that the council would take no notice .(We will see when we get the reply!)
It’s interesting that the council claims it has they have no choice in applying the Tory government’s ideologically driven austerity programme. The excuse was that they could not set an illegal budget based on need as if they did they would be put into administration and more cuts would be made. (Although they are totally kowtowing at the moment to the order from above to make cuts!) So that excuse is certainly not valid .
Perhaps the well paid careerist councillors and officers should take a pay cut to help fund frontline services? (Why are we also funding a mayor?).
