STRANGE Cllr Roy Saralis bemoans a fellow councillor for being against the proposed 7.9 per cent council tax rise and millions of pounds of cuts to services here in Caerphilly.

The question should be why is Cllr Saralis in favour of making his ward poorer?

Food banks and warm spaces are the only areas of growth in Caerphilly county. Indeed a warm space exists in his own ward, in Oakdale Library and a food bank a stone's throw away in Blackwood.

They are planning £1.4 million on a new gas heating system for the 25 per cent of employees not working from home. Whatever happened to the climate emergency announced to great fanfare by the leader of council?

We have a chief executive on £190,000 pa claiming Caerphilly could be at risk if more managers are not employed, costing us hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The pay scandal, seven years and £7 million to settle is the justification given we need to pay for excellence, so how can we be at risk?

Excellence that has led Caerphilly to fail yet again on recycling targets, second poorest in Wales. Roy Saralis and Labour need to attend to failings in house, and not play silly political games.
