I AM one of the organisers of the International Women’s day 2012 event in Newport that took place on March 8.
I am very pleased that we did get coverage in the South Wales Argus on the evening Friday, March 9, 2012.
However, I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge all the hard work of a number of organisations in Newport that made the event happen: They were: Charter Housing, Communities First, The Riverfront, Soroptimist International of Newport, Bethel Community Church, Gwent Police, Welsh Refugee Council, Ta’aleem Alnyssa (Education for Women), Aneurin Bevan Health Board, British Red Cross, Newport Community Arts Development, Welsh Assembly.
We were also grateful to have Venestre Cyril OBE as a speaker as well as Shahnaz Hakim, who spoke of her experiences as a woman living in Afghanistan.
A big thank you to the staff in the Riverfront as well, who did us proud, and were extremely helpful at all times. A great venue for this type of event.
It was a really great day, and the committee of organisers were really pleased to see so many women on the bridge and in the Riverfront.
