PLANS for a new House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) in Pill have been submitted.

The plans, submitted by Heights and Joy Planning and Architecture on behalf of the clients, propose to change the terraced property in Temple Street from a single dwelling to a HMO.

A HMO is a house lived in by three or more people forming more than one 'household unit', who share facilities such as a kitchen and bathroom. They are most commonly occupied by students and young professionals.

In its current state, the house has three bedrooms, but there are plans to alter this so that there will be five bedrooms in total.

Downstairs the plans are to convert part of the living room into a bedroom.

Upstairs the proposed changes are more drastic, with one bathroom to be converted into a bedroom, a storage room converted into a shower room and one bedroom being made slightly larger at the expense of another bedroom.

Outside, a waste storage container and a bike rack will be added if the plans are approved.

No external changes will be made to the appearance of the house.

The proposal notes that there are no other HMOs within 50 metres of the property and argues that there would be minimum impact on the character of the locality.

The proposal goes on to say that the HMO would be positive for the area as the different type of housing could increase the diversity of the area.

The plans also say the work carried out on the property will have little impact on the neighbours and that "it is unlikely that activity levels and noise at the property would increase to a degree that is harmful to neighbours."

However, the proposal admitted that there would be a "minor" change in behavioural patterns within the house, but that these changes would not negatively impact neighbours.
