EBBW Vale face a Swalec Cup tie in the capital after beating Newbridge at Eugene Cross Park this evening.
The Steelmen ran in five tries in a 27-5 victory to earn a round two encounter with Cardiff at the Arms Park.
The meeting between the Gwent rivals, who were both beaten semi-finalists last year, was in the balance at half-time.
Ebbw led 10-5 at the break thanks to tries by flanker Ronny Kynes and wing Polu Uhi.
And the hosts, who are battling with Bargoed for the Championship title, stretched away after the break thanks to another try by Kynes and scores by Wes Cunliffe and Luke Davies.
