NEWPORT County AFC’s long-standing contract saga involving Andy Sandell is over after the defender inked a new deal with the club.

The Argus reported recently that Sandell, the former Wycombe player, had taken to Twitter to complain about misinformation about him signing a new contract.

The Exiles made public back in June that ALL of their first team squad had agreed new terms, but Edinburgh has now moved to clarify the situation.

Sandell tweeted on Tuesday: “I’ve finally signed a new deal!”

Edinburgh confirmed the news and then explained that securing certain contracts has given him more than a few headaches.

“When we said, way back when, that the players had all agreed new deals, that was true,” he said.

“However, the registration doesn’t happen until July anyway, that’s when players actually sign and begin their new contracts.

“Andy was one of a few players, along with Aaron O’Connor, Ismail Yakubu and Max Porter, where it’s more complicated.

“It’s all because of the different rules and terminology for Football League contracts. Some of the new rules to-and-fro with certain clauses and Andy being Andy, being a tweeter, has put that all out on social media and I expect it has confused some of our fans.

“I think we’ve had four or five players where we’ve been going backwards and forwards on these various contracts and certain clauses. You are looking at things like medical clauses, it can prove to be a real pain!

“However, finally it’s all done and dusted, but we were always confident on it.”
