WALES Under-18s suffered last-gasp heartache against their English counterparts after shipping a try at the death.
Allan Lewis' young guns went down 17-15 in George, South Africa after Sam Olver's nerveless conversion.
After starting their three-match tour with a crushing 47-8 win against France, it had looked like Wales were going to make it two from two at Outeniqua Park.
They trailed 5-0 at half-time after shipping a try in the first minute but struck back early in the second half through Dragons winger Ashton Hewitt.
The speedster, who played in the Under-20s Six Nations last season and bagged a brace against Les Bleus, crossed the whitewash with regional teammate Angus O'Brien converting for a 7-5 lead.
Cardiff Blues centre Garyn Smith stretched the advantage when he scored Wales' second try before penalties were traded to make it 15-10 going into the closing stages.
Wales looked set to avenge the 44-7 drubbing they received in Swansea when the sides met in March but there was a cruel ending when Alex Lundberg smashed over and Olver added the extras for the win.
The young guns finish their tour with a clash against hosts South Africa on Saturday afternoon.
