A FIRST-HALF penalty from Andy Sandell was enough to give Newport County AFC the bragging rights in the Severnside derby.
Sandell slammed the ball past Rovers keeper Steve Mildenhall on 43 minutes after Christian Jolley had been upended in the area.
It was no less than County deserved after a dominant display in difficult coinditions at a packed Rodney Parade.
Chris Zebroski was denied several times by Mildenhall and substitute Conor Washington almost doubled the hosts' lead near the end.
The returning Lenny Pidgeley had little to do in the County goal all afternoon.
