NEWPORT County have confirmed another injury scare for midfielder Max Porter, the Argus can reveal.

The ex-Wimbledon man is still being hampered by his long-standing groin injury and will meet with a consultant in London today.

The news was confirmed by boss Justin Edinburgh and director of football Tim Harris, though both men are hopeful Porter will be back in action sooner rather than later.

“Max is seeing the specialist again because he’s still suffering some discomfort with his groin, it’s a far from ideal situation,” boss Edinburgh confirmed.

“Perhaps I’m being overly optimistic, but I’m pretty confident we aren’t too far off with getting Max right again.

“We won’t just see how it goes, we want to be pro-active and that’s why he’s going back.

“We are hopeful the area operated on is healed nicely and it’s more a case of the scar tissue causing the problem. If that’s the case, we are looking at days or weeks out, nothing worse.”

Porter himself is hopeful he can be involved this weekend for the trip to Dagenham and Redbridge.

With the game being staged just a few miles from his family home, Porter believes County’s away day blues can be arrested as the only way is Essex.

“This game, with due respect to Dagenham, we will see it as a winnable game,” Porter said.

“We were so disappointed to lose at Northampton, we played well but they were clinical and it was a lesson learned the hard way.

“But we have plenty of confidence about our ability to win on the road.”

Porter admits it’s always nice for him personally to play in Essex.

“My mum, who is my biggest fan, she’d never miss me playing a game near her neck of the woods,” he said.

“Hopefully there will be plenty of friends and family there on Saturday, because usually I hardly have anyone watching me!”

l As of yesterday morning the Exiles had sold over 850 tickets for their Carling Cup clash next Tuesday at Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion.

County now have just over 100 tickets left but have requested an extra 300 from Albion. Tickets for away fans will also be available on the night.
