CHAIRMAN Les Scadding praised the 1,700 “fantastic” Newport County AFC supporters after Tuesday’s Capital One Cup tie at West Bromwich Albion.

County went down to a 3-0 defeat at the home of the Premier League side but the Amber Army drowned out the home fans all night.

And Scadding says the fans’ support made up for a disappointing result at the Hawthorns.

“The support from our fans was fantastic,” he said. “The directors and chairman of West Brom turned round to us and said ‘we get Premiership fans here and they’re nowhere near as loud and appreciative of their players as your supporters were.’

“That means so much to us and even at 3-0 down they kept on singing.

“We were sad to lose but it didn’t really matter about the result,” he added.

“We were playing a Premiership side and it was a great occasion for everyone connected with the club.

“The fans just enjoyed themselves. They loved it and I loved every minute of it as well.

“I thank every one of those 1700 fans from the bottom of my heart. To listen to them was amazing and we can’t fault them at all.

“The fans are what make this club buzz for me and the other night proved that for me.”
