MANAGER Justin Edinburgh is expecting a battle at Scunthorpe United on Saturday but he insists that his Newport County AFC squad has enough firepower to scare anyone.

Despite an excellent start to the season, which has seen his side climb to sixth in League Two and win at Championship club Brighton & Hove Albion in the Capital One Cup, Edinburgh feels that County have not scored enough goals.

The Exiles have been guilty of failing to convert enough of the chances they are creating, especially in the defeats at Northampton Town and West Bromwich Albion and last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Dagenham & Redbridge.

“I certainly feel that we should have more goals in the 'for' column than we have,” said Edinburgh.

“But as long as we keep creating chances I know I have the players to put teams to the sword. We will score goals; I have no doubt about that.”

Brian Laws’ Scunthorpe are tenth in League Two with five points from their opening four games but Edinburgh is expecting a tough game.

“This is going to be a tough encounter against one of the fancied teams for promotion this year,” he said.

“But we go there very confident and buoyed after a really good start to the season and a performance at West Brom on Tuesday that earned us a lot of credit.

“Scunthorpe and Dagenham were always out priority this week.

“But you want to win every game and it would be fantastic to go to Scunthorpe and get an away win.”
