ROBBIE Willmott is targeting six points from home games against Mansfield Town and Morcambe as Newport County AFC return to fortress Rodney Parade.

Willmott was part of the Exiles side that earned a point at Scunthorpe United on Saturday through Andrew Hughes’ second half strike following the hosts’ 61-second opener.

And after three games on the road in eight days at Dagenham & Redbridge, West Bromwich Albion and Scunthorpe Justin Edinburgh’s men return home.

County host Mansfield on Saturday and Morcambe the following week as they look to continue their 100 per cent home record.

“We have looked pretty good at Rodney Parade so far this season and if we can take six points from those two games we will be in a great position,” said Willmott.

“We will keep ourselves in the mix and that’s what we want to do early in the season. We don’t want teams to get away from us and they haven’t so far.

“Mansfield are a good team. We know that from last season. We did the double over them but they are a hard team to play against and it will be the same again.

“They play pretty route one and they’ve had success with that. And they’ve added to their squad as well.

“Obviously in their eyes they’ll think they have more quality than us but we’ve just got to take account of their strengths and make sure we work hard on what we do best.”

And Willmott believes that the County fans can help the players to keep the momentum going.

“The fans will play a massive part,” he said. “They’ve been unbelievable for us so far this season. We took 1700 to West Broom and they cheered us all night long, even when we were 3-0 down.

“They were the same at Scunthorpe and they really make a good noise at home so hopefully it will be another good crowd on Saturday.

“They’re like a 12th man for us and hopefully if we keep playing like we’re playing more people will come and we’ll attract new supporters as well because we’re a decent side and we’re going up the table.”
