CROSS Keys make six changes from the side who beat Newport last week for today’s winner-takes-all British and Irish Cup play-off decider away at Bedwas (kick-off 2.30pm), writes Iwan Gabe Davies.

Keys beat Newport to fly over the first hurdle in their attempt to represent the Newport Gwent Dragons region in this season’s revamped tournament.

The reward for jumping over the second barrier by beating Bedwas at the Bridge Field would be another British and Irish Cup adventure in this campaign for the 2012 finalists.

Their quest to go a step further than two years ago would begin in a group including English sides Ealing and Moseley as well as reigning champions Leinster A.

The Pandy Park side’s new captain Leon Andrews is back at outside centre this afternoon after missing last week’s 39-17 win over the Black and Ambers.

He partners Phil Williams in midfield while Luke Williams, who was in the centre seven days ago, moves to the wing in place of Elliot Jones, while Nathan Trowbridge is on the left wing in place of Nathan Williams

There are two changes in the pack with Anthony Lott replacing Craig Gould at tighthead prop and Reuben Tucker swaping places with Rhys Peebles who steps up from the bench to start as blindside flanker.

Bedwas, who narrowly missed out on the Premiership play-offs last season, are a tough nut to crack.

Their head coach Steve Law saw Keys play Newport in last week’s elimination game and he knows his side are in for an encounter which promises to be a cracker with some much at stake.

“Cross Keys looked very sharp last week,” he said. “Scott Matthews (openside flanker) had a great game for Keys but the threat doesn’t stop there.”
