STRIKER Chris Zebroski wants to keep banging in the goals for Newport County AFC to repay the faith shown in him by manager Justin Edinburgh.
The 26-year-old admitted when he joined County this summer that he had struggled with alcohol issues in the past and he had his contract terminated by Cheltenham Town last season.
Zebroski was also forced to do 150 hours community work in 2010 after admitting to an assault in Torquay and was sacked by Plymouth after he got into a fracas with captain Paul Wotton on a pre-season training camp in 2006.
But Exiles boss Edinburgh is not afraid of signing a so called bad boy and the striker has scored four goals in six League Two games so far this season.
“I’m pleased with how it’s going for me,” said Zebroski. “To settle in with two goals on the first day of the season was great and the team is creating a lot of chances for me so I’m happy.
“I’m settled and I’m scoring goals and that is what I’m paid to do.
“The gaffer has put faith in me when a lot of other managers wouldn’t have signed me and the only way I can repay him is by scoring. Hopefully I can continue to do that.”
Zebroski’s latest goal came in last Saturday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Mansfield Town and he is aiming for three points when Morcambe visit Rodney Parade this weekend.
“You have to take the positives,” he said. “We are still unbeaten at home and we have another home game to come next and hopefully take three points.
“I’m not really surprised that we are where we are,” he added. “We had the momentum from the Conference and I look around at this squad and we’ve got a lot of good players.
“Before I signed here I knew that we had a good chance of being in the play-offs in this league and we’re showing that already.
“We were unlucky not to get three points against Mansfield but we will definitely attack from the first minute against Morcambe. Three points then and we’ll really get us back in the play-off spots.”
