PONTYPOOL head coach Mike Hook is delighted with his side’s impressive start to the season but is keen his charges don’t get too carried away.
Pooler are second in the Swalec Championship after two bonus point wins and only trail leaders Cardiff Met on points difference.
The Torfaen side’s opening 41-21 away victory over Beddau was followed up by a hard-earned 31-24 triumph over Bridgend Athletic at Pontypool Park on Saturday.
Pooler staged a remarkable second half revival after they’d trailed 21-0 at the interval.
Their tries came courtesy of wings Trevor James and Ashley Norton, scrum half Aaron Quick and back rower Ben Sparks, promising ex-Ulster Academy outside half Niall Martin converting all four touchdowns and kicking a penalty.
Pontypool face a potentially tough trip to Llanharan this weekend and Hook is making sure his team keep their feet on the ground.
“Of course it’s enjoyable when you start the season with two bonus point wins and we are buzzing, but you have to be realistic and understand that there’s a lot of work to be done,” he said.
“There are quite a few things we need to improve on and we’ve got a tough month coming up which will give us a benchmark of where we are.
“But we are looking to carry on our momentumand the team showed a lot of character to come back on Saturday after being 21-0 down.”
Pooler are putting together an excellent run in competitive matches with eight wins in their last nine matches.
