NEW signing John Barclay is “itching” to make his Scarlets debut when they clash with the Newport Gwent Dragons in this weekend's RaboDirectPRO12 clash at Rodney Parade.

The highly thought of 26-year-old Scotland flanker, who has won 41 caps since his 2007 debut, joined the Parc y Scarlets side over the summer after making 150 appearances for Glasgow Warriors.

Barclay missed his region’s opening two matches in the league, a defeat to Leinster and a victory over Treviso, as he continued his recovery after shoulder surgery.

The back rower can’t wait to face to get on the field and could well feature against the Dragons: "It's been a little frustrating to join a club and then be off with injur, but the surgery had to happen and I'm glad to get the go-ahead now.

"I'm just itching to get out there; in some ways it's been positive that I've had time to bed in slowly and not get rushed in – but on the other hand I just want to get out there and play and not just be stuck in the gym and rehab.”
