TILLERY Combat mixed martial arts star Darrell James is celebrating after becoming British Jiu-jitsu champion, writes Andrew Penman.
James won gold at the British No Gi BJJ Open in Birmingham when coach Richard Shore also picked up a silver medal in the elite division, losing a very close final on points.
Dane Morgan didn’t win a medal but gained great experience and is progressing every week.
The Tillery Jiu-jitsu team also travelled to compete in the Hereford Jiu-jitsu Open and Joel Clark came away with a gold medal.
Morgan, Leigh Andrews, Tom Karpinski and Kaitlin Jefferies all won silver and Lewis Cooper won bronze.
The MMA team were in action at the UK's two biggest promotions – BAMMA and Cagewarriors.
The team didn’t get the results they wanted, despite good performances, as Jack Marshman, Kris Edwards and Timur Mercologu were all beaten.
But Ryan Legge continued his winning streak though win another submission win.
October will also be a busy month with several MMA events and jiu-jitsu competitions.
