NEWPORT County AFC top scorer Chris Zebroski is aiming to get one over on his former employers on Saturday.

County host Torquay United at Rodney Parade looking to build on last week’s impressive 2-0 win at Exeter City and Zebroski is fired up for the visit of the Gulls.

The 26-year-old enjoyed the best form of his career in two spells at Plainmoor, scoring 18 goals on loan in 2007-08 and 16 more after joining the club permanently in 2010.

But the much-travelled striker, who also parted company with Plymouth Argyle and Cheltenham Town under controversial circumstances, left Torquay under a cloud when he handed in a transfer request at the end of the 2010-11 season and moved on to Bristol Rovers.

“I had a couple of seasons there and it is always nice to get a goal against your old club,” said Zebroski.

“I’m looking forward to it. I might get a bit of stick from their fans but I don’t care. It motivates me to try and get one over on them really.

“I still know a lot of the lads there,” he added. “I had some good times there and played some big games – in a play-off final and at Old Trafford in the cup – so I had good tears and joy there.

“I’m looking forward to it and if we can get three points we can kick on and really get some momentum going.”

Zebroski, who has four goals in League Two so far this season, says that last week’s win at Exeter will boost confidence throughout the Exiles squad.

“It was good to get the first away win,” he said. “I had a feeling it was coming and it got rid of the frustration from the Morecambe game.

“The gaffer asked for a response and we provided it. To get a clean sheet as well was a great result and if we win again on Saturday we can be back in the play-off slots.”

Zebroski was full of praise for strike partner Conor Washington, who scored one and made one at St. James’ Park.

And with injured pair Aaron O’Connor and Christian Jolley on the comeback trail he believes County can challenge at the top of League Two this season.

“Conor took his goal superbly at Exeter,” he said. “He was almost unplayable at times.

“And with Azza and Jolls to come back as well there are a lot of goals in this team so if we can keep clean sheets as well we can really do well in this league.”
