CROSS Keys head coach Greg Woods is urging his side to be more ruthless for Saturday’s visit of high flying Llandovery to Pandy Park.

Last weekend wasteful Keys went down 28-11 at home to league and cup double champions Pontypridd who were clinical when it came to taking their chances.

Saturday’s game will be another tough assignment for the Drovers made the Principality Premiership play-offs last season, losing their semi-final 29-20 to Llanelli.

They have continued their rich vein of league form into this campaign with two wins from two after despatching Cardiff 14-10 and Bridgend 43-17.

Keys got their Principality Premiership off to a winning start by beating Swansea 19-13 at St Helen’s before last week’s setback against Ponty.

Woods has mixed emotions after losing to the champions but wants his men to learn from their mistakes.

“It was one of those games you don’t expect to lose – we had 70 per cent possession and 70 per cent territory and conceded just nine penalties in a top of the table clash,” he said.

“But we did lose and the reasons we did were simple really – we didn’t take our chances when we had opportunities, we spilled too many balls and we didn’t take our goal kicks when they were there.

“They had three chances of scoring and they scored 21 points.

“I was bitterly disappointed but there were lots of positives and we took them to the wire and I tip my cap to them because they were fantastic and they stood and defended their 22 for their lives really.

“I think if we’d played anybody else at Pandy Park last week, we would have won quite comfortably.”

Woods added: “We have to get over that disappointment and take on board the lesson of how clinical Pontypridd were and we have to take our chances.

“Llandovery are a very good side and it will be a big challenge. It’s so important to get a couple of wins before the British and Irish Cup starts next month.”

Although the Drovers will be highly motivated and determined to break a hoodoo, Woods is confident his side can get back to winning ways.

“They are gunning for this game because they think of Pandy Park as a bit of a bogey pitch and they want to break that duck of not winning here for ten years,” he said.

“I think they might come down with a different mentality for this one.

“But if we can play with the same territory and possession and execute our chances better then we will score points.”
