DANNY Crow helped Newport County AFC to their third home win in five games on Saturday and then fired a warning to the club’s League Two rivals, insisting the Exiles are better on the road.

County followed up their impressive 2-0 win at Exeter City with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Torquay United at Rodney Parade thanks to first half goals from Ismail Yakubu and Crow.

They now face three away games in succession with trips to Bury and Rochdale in League Two sandwiching a Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at League One Crawley Town a week today.

And Crow is confident that the Exiles squad is ready for life on the road.

“We’ve got three away games now at Bury and Rochdale and Crawley in between and they are three massive games,” said the striker.

“But we seem to be better away from home at the moment.

“The way we play we’ve always been attacking – there are a lot of goals in this team and we have Christian Jolley and Aaron O’Connor to come back – so we always fancy our chances away from home.”

Crow was delighted to mark his return to the starting XI with a goal on Saturday but he was full of praise for the men who have kept him out of the side of late – Conor Washington and Chris Zebroski.

“I’m very happy but, more importantly, we won,” said the 27-year-old, whose last start was in the Capital One Cup defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

“The last home game against Morecambe we were very disappointed not to win but we beat a very good team at Exeter last week and Torquay have got some very good individuals so to get another win was the most important thing for us.

“I’m tired after that and I didn’t even play that long,” he added. “We had to ground it out and I don’t know how Zeb does it, to be honest with you, he runs around like a headless chicken for 90 minutes!

“And Conor Washington was exceptional again. The strides he’s made since he’s come in are frightening and he’s vital for us.”

It was Washington who made the goal for Crow after Yakubu’s opener.

“I remember he did the same at Northampton and he shot and scored so I thought he was going to do the same again,” he said.

“But I was just trying to keep up with him because he’s so quick and I’m happy to have got the goal.

“He’s so quick and he’s created three or four goals in the last few games. He’s been exceptional and we hope he kicks on from here.”
