WALES’ minifootball team will be represented by a squad made up entirely of five Chepstow players as a national team makes its first appearance at the miniEURO tournament.
The competition takes place in Crete next month where they will be up against England, Spain and, first up on October 11, Bulgaria.
Captained by Julian Saunders, 25, a supermarket team leader at a supermarket, he leads a squad that includes fellow Chepstow players, Chris Fortescue, Rory Garey, Tom Chappell and Sam Rushworth in an eight-man squad.
The players, who play for different sides in the Leisure Leagues, will play for their country after impressing at a national tournament in Birmingham.
Saunders, who plays 11-a-side football for Milkwall, near Coleford, is delighted to represent his country.
“We are so excited and can’t wait to get there but we won’t believe it until we are actually there,” he said.
“It’s the biggest step I can take as a player and it has been amazing to get selected – my phone hasn’t stopped ringing.”
