NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh will shuffle is pack for tomorrow’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy tie at Crawley Town after his side earned a battling point at Bury.

Edinburgh was delighted with the 0-0 draw at Gigg Lane that kept the Exiles just a point off the play-off places in League Two.

And with another tough trip to the North West to face Rochdale in the league next Saturday, the manager will take the opportunity to rest some key players at the Broadfield Stadium tomorrow night (kick-off 7pm).

“I have to do that with the players we’ve got out at the moment,” said Edinburgh. “We have to be careful and cautious with certain players so there will be changes.

“We have players sitting on that bench who are good enough to make a difference so we will certainly change things round for Tuesday.”

Defender Harry Worley is suspended for the JPT tie after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season on Saturday and the likes of Lenny Pidgeley, David Pipe, Ismail Yakubu, Adam Chapman and Conor Washington may join him on the sidelines.

The stalemate at Bury was the first time County have failed to score in the league this season but Edinburgh was happy with the display, particularly after he brought on Chris Zebroski for Tony James at the break.

“I’m very pleased with the clean sheet,” said the Exiles boss. “We started the game particularly slow but, fair play to Bury, they had a real good tempo about them and we found it hard to get a foothold into the game.

“But I made some changes at half-time and I thought we had a better shape and better purpose about us second half.

“It was a tactical change,” he added. “I thought we needed to get an extra body up the field. It seemed like we were being outnumbered in that department.

“Zebroski certainly gave us a bit of emphasis and we looked a threat in the second half.

“I thought as the game wore on we might nick one and take the three points, which maybe wouldn’t have been deserved, but we’re delighted with the point. Any point away from home is a good point.”

And Edinburgh believes his side are well on track after ten league games.

“I can’t praise the players enough, and the supporters who travelled today,” he said. “It is a really good start for us.

“We’ve got a busy week with three consecutive away games. Today was the start of that and it gives us a solid foundation for the next two.”
