NEWPORT County AFC manager Justin Edinburgh insists his players will keep their feet on the ground despite moving up to fourth in League Two after beating Hartlepool United.
Goals from Harry Worley and Conor Washington sealed a 2-0 win over Colin Cooper’s in form side and lifted the Exiles into the play-off places before their rivals are in action this afternoon.
Expectations of a second successive promotion are rising at Rodney Parade and Edinburgh was delighted with his side.
“I’m extremely pleased, we came up against a really good side but we took our chances when they came along so I’m absolutely delighted with the result and the performance,” said the County manager.
“It was never comfortable when the scoreline was only 1-0. We knew Hartlepool would pose a threat and they certainly did that in the second half.
“We had to withstand that and we got that second goal at a crucial time. That settled us down and we ended up winning fairly comfortably.
“Our good home form continues,” he added. “Whenever you come into a new league you want to be competitive and we’ve continued the momentum from last year.
“With the significant amount of injuries we’ve had the players have been magnificent and I think we’ll be stronger as we go into the Christmas period and beyond.”
Edinburgh believes his side can sustain a promotion challenge but is not allowing his players to get carried away after climbing to fourth in the League Two table.
“It’s a good place to be. We’ll look at the other results and hopefully we stay there.
“We’ve made Rodney Parade a fortress. The fans made a big noise out there.
“We’ve played well away from home and not picked up the points so if we can correct that then we will be a force to be reckoned with in this league.
“We’ve been very competitive in every game this season and we’re confident but we’ll keep focused, keep our feet on the floor and look forward to the next game.”
That next game is the FA Cup replay at home to Braintree Town on Tuesday night (kick-off 7.45pm).
