CAERLEON Comprehensive School will represent Newport County AFC in the area finals of the Football League Girls’ Cup.
The school defeated rivals St Joseph’s High School to keep alive their dreams of playing at Wembley Stadium.
Caerleon defeated St Albans (Pontypool) in the semi-finals and St Joes went through to the final courtesy of a victory over Lliswerry Primary.
An excellent final was ultimately too close to call and went to sudden death penalties with Caerleon holding their nerve.
Caerleon will now represent Newport County AFC in the Area Finals hosted by Exeter City on the weekend of January 13.
Should they win the tournament, the girls will go on to the regional finals at Watford in February with the finals being held prior to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy Final on Sunday, March 30, 2014.
