NEWPORT County AFC will be backed by a bumper away following when they make the short trip to take on Cheltenham Town tomorrow, writes Andrew Penman.

County have sold more than 700 tickets for the League Two clash at Whaddon Road and tickets are available until midday today.

No tickets will be sold after that deadline or on the day of the game.

The Exiles have been granted an allocation of 1,586 for this game and hope to match the 890 figure that followed the team to Exeter City in September to see the club’s only win on the road in League Two to date.

Mark Yates’ Robins are down in 17th, just six points above the relegation zone but also only six points behind County in sixth.

Meanwhile, Tuesday’s trip to the Kassam Stadium to take on league leaders Oxford United and former County hero Danny Rose will go ahead as planned.

It had been feared that the postponement of the FA Cup tie between Gateshead and Oxford this week would lead to that game being rearranged for next week but the cup game will now take place on December 5.

County’s FA Cup second round clash at Kidderminster Harriers will take place at Aggborough on Saturday, December 7 (kick-off 3pm), and away fans will be able to pay on the day.

The match has been selected for lead coverage on the ITV FA Cup highlights programme that evening and both clubs will therefore receive £6,750.

Following criticism from some fans for the ticketing prices for this week’s FA Cup first round replay victory over Braintree Town, which resulted in a disappointing attendance of 1,406, the club have confirmed that prices will continue to be reduced for the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

After the success of the last round against Portsmouth, when a crowd of 2,849 saw Edinburgh’s men beat Pompey 3-0, the southern section semi-final against Peterborough United at Rodney Parade on December 10 will see the same prices in place.

Tickets for that fixture went on sale yesterday morning at £15 for adults and £11 for students and OAPs when bought in advance.
