SCOTT Williams says it’s high time Wales changed the record and gave their fans a new tune to dance to by beating Australia this Saturday.

The Scarlets centre has boosted his country’s hopes of a rare win over the Aussies this weekend after being passed fit to play.

The 23-year-old injured his toe during a starring role in the record 40-6 victory over Argentina a fortnight ago.

He returns to partner Owen Williams, 22, for the first time in a Test match, the Cardiff Blues man scoring a stunning try in just his third cap as Wales laboured to a 17-7 triumph over Tonga at the Millennium Stadium.

Warren Gatland’s side are desperate for a win this weekend – they have lost eight times in a row against the men from Down Under since beating the Wallabies 21-18 in 2008.

Williams, who wins his 23rd cap this weekend, has already lost four times to the Aussies since making his debut in 2011, seems to be as sick of losing as every other Wales fan.

The latest was a 14-12 defeat on December 1, 2012, Kurtley Beale scoring the winning try with just 30 seconds left on the clock.

“We seem to be saying the same thing every year,” Williams said. “We have come close on so many occasions against Australia and we all know what happened last year.

“They are still a world-class team with world-class players so it is going to be a challenge again.”

His midfield partnership with Owen comes about because of injuries to centres Jamie Roberts and Jonathan Davies, the pair playing in the British and Irish Lions’ 41-16 series-winning third Test triumph over Australia in July.

And although new to Test level rugby, this weekend's combination have performed together before.

“I am really looking forward to it,” he said. “I played with Owen in the WalesUnder-20s and that went okay. He played well against Tonga and finished that try well.”

On the debt Williams owes Davies, out with a serious pectoral injury sustained in Wales’ 24-15 defeat to South Africa at the start of the month, he said: “What Jonathan has achieved in a short space of time is outstanding.

“Anything can happen and he has taken all the opportunities he has been given.

“He has massively influenced me and for him to come back from the Lions tour, I was happy to play alongside him and his experience rubbed off on me.”
