TWO-time UK Champion Mark Williams insists there is plenty more to come from him after he eased into the second round of the 2013 tournament on Thursday.

The 38-year-old from Cwm had too much class for Allan Taylor as he breezed to a 6-2 victory at the Barbican Centre in York.

Currently ranked outside the world's top 16 at No.18, the two-time former world champion Williams has enjoyed an impressive start to the 2013/14 season.

With one PTC tournament win to his name and some good runs in a couple of others, the man they call the Welsh Potting Machine has shown glimpses of the sort of form that took him to two world and two UK crowns.

And while Williams is still in contention for a place at next year's Masters with a strong run here in York, the left-hander will be hoping to build on his strong start.

"It was all right out there, it was not great but it's only the first round and the most important thing is to try and scrap through really and that's probably what I did," he said.

"If I win I stay, if I lose I go home, I'm not going to be having any sweat ups.

"There's no point in crying, the worst that can happen is you lose.

"It's been an OK season, I won one of the PTCs and did quite well in a couple of the other ones but this is the first big ranking tournament we have played in a while.

"If you can get a run in this it's double money and double points and you never know I could be pushing for a Masters place.

"I probably have to get to a semis or a final but we will just see what happens at the end of the week."

It was less good news for fellow Welshman Jak Jones, however, the world No.122 brought crashing down to earth in a 6-1 hammering at the hands of former UK finalist Mark Allen.

And the 20-year-old admits he is struggling for confidence this season.

"I only slept about one hour last night, I was just too tired out there," he said.

"Mark played well, he took every chance he had and I am struggling with confidence big time.

"My practice is going really well but I'm too desperate to win and that is what is costing me."
