NEWPORT County AFC moved to within three points of the League Two summit with a thrilling 3-2 victory over ten-men Chesterfield at Rodney Parade.

A Danny Crow header put County ahead after just six minutes but the visitors were level just after the hour when Jimmy Ryan rolled the ball into an empty net.

The second-placed Spireites were on top and pushing hard for a win when Conor Washington was hauled down by Liam Cooper in the box and the visiting defender was sent off.

Adam Chapman scored from the spot on 75 minutes and substitute Andy Sandell made it 3-1 from close range on 87 minutes.

Substitute Marc Richards set up a nervy final few minutes when he made it 3-2 in the second minute of time added on but the Exiles held out for three points that lifts them back to eighth in the table.
