USK Valley Trampoline Club entered some of its competitive squad into the Welsh Schools Trampoline Championships recently with some great results.
This competition is a major yearly event open to schoolchildren from all over Wales and winners qualify to compete outside Wales.
Amy-Rose Shutt became Welsh Schools Champion at under-11 and Ella Travers came second in the under-13 section.
Both girls, as part of the top three of their groups, qualified to enter the British Semi Finals (Zonals) to be held in January where they will represent their schools again – Amy-Rose for Ysgol Gymraeg Casnewydd in Newport and Ella for King Henry VIII School Abergavenny.
Success there would mean entry to the British National Schools Finals.
The club also picked up some trophies in the beginners' section – Ashleigh Strange came second and Reece Williams and Katie Watkins were joint third.
Again local schools were represented here. Ashleigh's school is Crickhowell Primary and Reece's is Llangattock, whilst Katie represented Usk Primary.
There were some very large groups at the event and the club has some near misses with Abigail Parker fourth (Under 15), Chloe Wilkes fourth (Under 19) and Bethan Duckett fifth (Under 15) with others also making the top ten of their groups – Nianh Atkinson sixth , Leah Hussey eighth and Menna Inight and Katie Lloyd ninth.
The club enters promising youngsters in competitions but that is not its sole focus as you can bounce for fun or take British Gymnastics Trampoline Awards to progress in the sport as well.
Usk Valley Trampoline Club trains locally at Newport Centre and the Newport Velodrome and also at Crickhowell Sports Centre and Pontypool Active Living Centre.
