NEWPORT County striker Christian Jolley believes he’s on the verge of rediscovering his goalscoring touch, writes Michael Pearlman.

The 15-goal striker last term is back to full fitness after six weeks on the sidelines, but as yet he’s failed to find his Midas touch in front of goal.

However, Jolley is confident it’s just a matter of time and is relishing County’s cup double, with the Exiles in FA Cup action at Kidderminster tomorrow before facing Peterborough at Rodney Parade next Tuesday in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy sectional semi-final.

“I am happy to be back involved, my body feels good but the goals just aren’t coming yet, but they will and it’s nice to have two cup games,” Jolley told the Argus.

“We felt it was massive to get the result against Chesterfield.

“It was the first time a team came and took the game to us and it was difficult, especially as a forward.

“But we ground it out, we showed terrific character and that shows the sort of squad we have.”

Jolley doesn’t believe County will struggle for cup motivation.

“It’s not as important to the fans to go far in the cup as it is to challenge for promotion, but as I’ve said before, the cup is very special to us, to every footballer,” he said.

“It has great importance also in the sense that we want to keep winning, maintain our form and keep showing the same attitude and desire to get results.

“I played there last year in the 3-2 game that we lost, and I know we’ve had some bad times recently against Kidderminster.

“But you grow up loving the FA Cup, you want one of those big draws, but we have to do the job against Kidderminster first.

“We will be favourites but we know that doesn’t mean much if we don’t do our jobs properly.”
