SO here we are then, the FA Cup second round and the chance to book ourselves a dream tie in the third round.

It’s a big weekend for Newport County and we are determined to seize our chance and it just so happens that is against Kidderminster.

We’ve lost four on the spin to them as a club and lost both games last season, but I’m a bit perplexed when I hear the papers and radio talking about revenge, because we clearly got the last laugh by being promoted.

Although it might have seen like there was niggle at the game at our place last season, it was more to do with what was at stake and Kidderminster were able to pick up what was a massive result for them at the time.

It’s going to be tough for us today, they’ve got a lot of players and a good level of quality and it’s never an easy place to go.

It’s no secret we’ve lost our last two there, both 3-2 and in the first of those games, which I wasn’t involved in, we managed to lose 3-2 despite being 2-0 up with 86 minutes of the game in the books!

It’s one of those things, last season we were the better side, but Jamille Matt scored three headers and we let ourselves down and shot ourselves in the foot that day.

But Kidderminster will be so motivated and they’ll probably think it’s a bigger game for them than for us, but that’s rubbish.

Yes the FA Cup isn’t our number one priority, that is true, but all the boys are fully aware that the next game, if we progress, could literally be worth £1 million to the club. We all want to have a run and get on the television and enjoy the glory of the cup and it’s a massive motivation for us.

But don’t believe for a minute the FA Cup doesn’t matter to us, because it absolutely does.

Obviously from a personal point of view, I am hoping that the cup games (County play Peterborough on Tuesday at Rodney Parade in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy) will mean I get some game time myself.

I haven’t been in the first team for a good few weeks and if I am honest I absolutely hate it, I am not the kind who is happy as long as they are collecting their wages, I hate not playing and it is a difficult time.

But I’ve stated before Newport County is my club and I am not going to go rocking the boat, I will continue to do all I can to be a part of this squad.

The thing is with the gaffer, he doesn’t just bomb you out of the side and leave you wondering why, he talks to you and discusses things.

I don’t like not being in the side, but I understand it and at my age you have to take things on the chin. We’re on a great run and I have to be patient and wait for my chance.

People have described our win last weekend against Chesterfield as the biggest of the season so far and I think that’s fair enough.

I would agree, if we’d have lost we’d have been a little adrift of the top two they had good chances, we had to grind it out.

You learn things the hard way in the Football League and this season, at Northampton and at home to Morecombe, we’ve played well and we’ve lost. On Sunday we were poor by our own standards, but we won against arguably the best side in the division.

I think out of the teams we’ve played, I’d still say Rochdale are the best we’ve seen, but Chesterfield would be next.

Finally, I just want to comment on the lift we’ve had with so many of our injured players on the comeback trail.

Everyone’s favourite lunatic, Andy ‘off his head’ Sandell is back and he’s already flying and scoring and for me it’s great to see Max Porter back in training as well.

He’s had so many setbacks and he’s in training now and looking good and its pleasing, these are good players and great lads and they’ll really give us a big boost.
