FORMER Cross Keys and Newport RFC scrum-half and Wales rugby league international Cliff Williams has died.
Williams, from Abercarn, joined Newport RFC In October 1965 having previously played for and captained Cross Keys.
David Watkins’ scrum-half partner Bob Prosser had gone north and Williams made his Newport debut in October 1964 against Wasps.
He played 31 games for the Black & Ambers that season, scoring five tries, before going north to Hunslet RL. He later played for Batley and represented Wales in rugby league.
A statement from Newport RFC said: "The club was saddened to hear of the death of former Newport scrum-half Cliff Williams and sends condolences to the family at this sad time."
