MEMBERS of the Torfaen Taekwondo Club took part in the South Midlands Championships at the Hereford Leisure Centre. There were 650 competitors taking part and the club did very well to come home with 12 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze medals from the individuals events.
The gold medals went to Jasmin Levan (patterns), Maya Levan (sparring), Hallie Purcell (sparring), Lewis Purcell (sparring), Cara-Leigh Edwards (sparring), Joe Thomas (sparring), Scarlett Pearson (sparring), Lara Powell (sparring), Kian Griffin (patterns), Jasmine Peploe (sparring), Jordan Constance (sparring) and Ben Jackson (sparring).
Sofea Levan (sparring), Maya Levan (patterns), David Watkins (sparring), Lara Powell (patterns), Lee Griffin (patterns) and Keiran Sullivan (patterns and sparring) took the silver medals. Meanwhile, the bronze medals went to Sofea Levan (patterns), Liam Purcell (sparring), Elijah Pearson (patterns), Scarlett Pearson (patterns), Harri Mitchell (sparring), Catty Langford (sparring), Kian Griffin (sparring), Taylor Davies (sparring) and Cameron Ferrie (sparring).
Well done too to both Jasmin Levan and Kian Griffin for the brilliant performances in the finals of the junior girls and boys Grand Champions patterns. The Club has also done well in the teams sparring event. The club took home another 6 golds (Team Jasmin, Catty & Jasmine, Team Hallie, Team Lewis, Kian & Leland, Team Cara-Leigh, Team Keiran and Team Taylor & George); 4 silvers (Team Alex, Team Liam, Team Lara and Team Cameron); and 1 bronze (Team Kian, Ryan and Kieran) medals.
Club members are now training hard towards the English Championships (16th March), as well as the European Championships, which will be held in Davos at the end of March.
Torfaen Taekwondo Club is also running Little Tigers lessons, aiming for 4 - 6 years olds. Training is in Pontypool Active Living Centre at 5pm every Tuesday and Friday. The club trains on Monday (Cwmbran Stadium), Thursday (Cwmbran Fairwater) and Tuesday and Friday (Pontypool Active Living Centre).
