NEWPORT Gwent Dragons lock Andrew Coombs hailed the perfect weekend after enjoying a superb victory over Glasgow just days after a Test triumph with Wales, writes Chris Kirwan.
The 29-year-old came off the bench in the Six Nations win against France on Friday evening and was at the heart of his region’s 24-23 success against the RaboDirect Pro12 title hopefuls at Rodney Parade.
Glasgow led 20-10 after an hour only to be stung by late tries by lock Cory Hill and wing Ross Wardle plus nerveless conversions by full-back Rhys Jones.
“I’ve never had two wins in a weekend before so it’s great,” said the lock, who played the full 80 minutes. “We showed great spirit to turn this around.
“We are a stronger team this year and we have experienced players like Richie Rees and Rhys Thomas who know how to win and keep the younger boys going. We performed well and got the result that we deserved.”
The seventh-placed Dragons are four points behind the Scarlets and five clear of Cardiff Blues with a game in hand over their foes from the capital.
