NEWPORT County director of football Tim Harris is leaving the club to rejoin his hometown team Gloucester City as manager.
As revealed by the Argus yesterday, Harris was offered the post on Sunday morning after the Conference South strugglers sacked David Mehew.
Harris, 54, rejoins the club who he left to take up his role with County in 2010 and expressed a belief that he couldn’t do any more to help the Exiles.
“With where we’ve come, with being a Football League club and giving it a really good go as we have done, I can’t do much more,” he said.
“The only way I could is if I gave up my day job and that just isn’t an option for me.”
Harris also feels the need of his hometown team is greater.
“Gloucester are in an almost catastrophic position and they need my help, I have huge emotional ties to both clubs and don’t want to see either suffer.
“I appreciate the timing isn’t ideal, but I’ve had to do what feels right for me.”
For an extensive interview with Harris, see Friday’s Argus Sport.
