TORFAEN Warriors boxers Becky Price and Ashley Brace enjoyed success in Welsh vests when they represented their country against Holland, writes Andrew Penman.

The duo, both hopeful of going to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer, both boosted their cause with victories over tough Dutch fighters.

They are preparing for next month’s Welsh Championships when the winners will be selected to fight at the Commonwealth Games.

Two-time former Welsh champion Price fights at 60kg, while Brace fights at 51kg.

The two-day match, held at Gilfach Goch and Gorseinon, saw 29-year-old Lloyds Bank manager Price win on points via a unanimous decision.

And 22-year-old college student Brace enjoyed two wins against the Dutch number one and two, knocking down the visitor’s top 51kg prospect in the first and third round of their contest.

They then both flew out to Bulgaria where they are now competing in the Strandja Cup event.

There was disappointment for fellow Torfaen fighter Dino Smith on his first appearance for Great Britain, however.

Smith, who fights at 70kg, faced a tough test against 17-year-old home favourite Martin Larsen.

And he was winning the bout on points but had to be withdrawn in the second round after picking up a nasty cut in the first round.

British coach Gary Hale took the decision on safety grounds as Welsh Youth champion Smith will be fighting in the British Championships next month.
