MEMBERS of Usk Valley Trampoline Club hit the heights at the Welsh Grades Trampoline Competition held at Abertillery Sports Centre earlier this month.
The club gained an amazing six new Welsh Champions in their individual age and ability groups. They were:
Rhiannon Handley – Under 15 Regional 1
Reece Williams – Under 11 Regional 2
Ella Travers – Under 15 Regional 3
Bethan Duckett – Under 17 Regional 3
Michael Trott – Over 17 Regional 3
Isobel Knight – Under 13 Regional 4
Second places in the individual event were also awarded to Niamh Atkinson – Under 15 Regional 1, Mikaela Price – Under 17 Regional 2, Ashleigh Strange – Under 11 Regional 2 and Bethan Evans – Under 17 Regional 3.
Third places went to Milly Naish - Under 15 Regional 1, Elli McKim – Under 13 Regional 2 and Amy-Rose Shutt – Under 11 Regional 3.
Many other club members also made the top five of their groups.
The club also collected Gold Medals for the team events:
Regional 1 Under 13 Girls - Tayla Grainger, Sophie Wilson, Ellys Perry and Charlotte Jones.
Regional 1 Under 15 Girls - Milly Naish, Niamh Atkinson, Riannon Handley and Sarah Lloyd.
Regional 2 Under 13 Girls – Leah Hussey, Elli McKim and Katie Watkins.
Regional 2 Under 11 Girls – Ffion Rixon, Ashleigh Strange and Reece Williams.
Regional 3 Under 17 Girls – Bethan Duckett, Bethan Evans and Hannah Maine.
The club also entered the synchronised event and provided the winning pair – Ella Travers and Menna Inight – Under 13 Regional 3 and gained second place in the Under 15 Regional 4 competition with Isobel Knight and Lois Gould.
Some of the children will now progress to the next grade.
Senior Club Coach Barbara Digby-North said that the many successes this time were an outstanding testament to the members hard work put in on their routines.
Usk Valley Trampoline Club trains locally at Newport and also at Pontypool and Crickhowell. In addition to preparation for competitions the club also runs the British Gymnastics Trampoline Award Scheme were children can progress at their own pace. It welcomes beginners and disabled children into the club and all can bounce for fun and fitness as well as more serious training.
