GWENT boxers Jerome Samuels, Dai Jones and Bradley Pryce are all in action at the Newport Centre tomorrow night on Steve Robinson’s debut show as a promoter, writes Andrew Penman.
Newport’s Samuels, son of former IBF inter-continental light middleweight champion Paul, headlines the show in his Welsh light middleweight contest against Blackwood’s Jones.
And the undercard will feature the homecoming of former Commonwealth light-middleweight champ Pryce who will take on Latvian Raimond Snieze.
Newbridge fighter Pryce has been on the road of late, stepping in at short notice to fight some of Europe’s top boxers like Frankie Gavin and Sergey Rabchenko, only to miss-out on the score cards despite putting up valiant efforts.
The 32 year-old ex-Team Calzaghe man last fought in Wales back in September 2011 when he floored and out-pointed Danny Butler.
Darren Pryce, younger brother of Bradley, is also on the bill in a rematch against Kyle King.
The two met at the same venue in 2011 with King winning over four rounds by a score of 39-37 and Pryce is looking for revenge.
Cruiserweight prospect Danni Griffiths is also in action as he takes on the experienced Jamie Ambler.
The 18-year-old from Nantymoel has won his last three fights but faces a tough test against Aberystwyth’s Ambler.
Tony Dixon of Mountain Ash has trouble finding opponents due to his powerful displays which have seen him remain unbeaten despite travelling to his opponents’ backyard.
In his fourth contest the 21-year-old gets his first outing in his home country when he faces Poland’s Sylwester Walczak at welterweight.
Promoter Robinson, the former world champion from Cardiff, also has two of his fighters on the card.
His son Luke Robinson and undefeated prospect Craig Kennedy will bring plenty of support with them from the capital.
Robinson Jr takes on fellow Cardiffian Tom Price in a six round contest in the light-welterweight division.
Kennedy meets durable Ugandan Moses Matovu, who is based in Banger in Northern Ireland, in a ten-round contest for the Bronze British Masters belt.
Tickets will be available on the door and there will be a charity auction of Welsh sports memorabilia in aid of George Thomas Hospice Care.
